A year as a VEGAN!

Even though it was on my mind long before, a year ago I decided to challenge myself and "try" vegan diet for a month. Why for one month only? Because I thought it was very hard! I thought I could never last longer than that! I thought vegans must have some super powers (which we do - we are saving Mother Earth πŸ˜‰), lots of money and lots of free time to check labels, milk almonds and cook healthy vegan meals

Oh! How fast all my stereotypes and fears went away! After few weeks of being vegan I realized that I have lost the count of days! At that exact moment I knew - I AM VEGAN. I stopped saying "I am just trying this vegan thing out" for good.
I am not trying to convince you to choose veganism just because it is easy for me - most of us need facts first. And that is what I will share with you today:

What changes occur during first year after going vegan?

The first month

During first month you will notice a big boost of energy (great time to start a new hobby and/or work on your goals, etc.). It is because you remove processed meat that you used to eat as an omnivore and replace it with fruits and vegetables that are full of vitamins and minerals.

You might experience some bloating caused by higher fibre content in a vegan diet. Make sure you are eating healthy vegan meals and not refined, processed ones and drinking lots of water to reduce or prevent it. 

After three to six months

Several months after, you will notice that the increase in fruit and vegetables affect your skin in a positive way. Once you remove dairy products (that cause inflammation in your body) from your diet, you will  experience less breakouts, skin complexion will improve. 

In such short period of time, vegan diet may already gift you with some impressive benefits: reduced risk of diabetes, stroke and heart disease!

If you are following a proper vegan diet you may notice some healthy weight loss by this time as well. 

Six months to a year

By this time it would be great to visit your doctor and run some tests to find out if your body is suffering from some deficiencies (such as vitamin D, vitamin B12 or others). It might be hard as a new vegan to make sure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals you need from your meals so do not be ashamed! It is better to be safe than sorry!  

Further down the line, you will notice that your cravings for processed, sugary products will decrease significantly. By now, your body is pretty much adjusted to a new lifestyle but do not forget to take care of it and at least once per year visit your doctor and do some tests!

Once you gather all the facts about slaughter houses, environmental pollution and other important information - going vegan is easy. You feel awakened. You can never imagine going back simply because you are not the same person anymore. You are a VEGAN! I am proud of you! We are proud of you!
